What a Brow Lift Corrects
A brow lift treats the upper third of the face: a brow that has dropped over the years, heaviness at the outer corner of the eye, deep frown lines between the brows, and the tired or stern expression these create. The same operation appears under several names — endoscopic brow lift, endoscopic forehead lift, gliding brow lift, forehead lift — which describe variations of one principle: releasing the forehead tissues and resetting the brow at a better height.
Just as important is what it does not treat. A brow lift does not remove loose eyelid skin, it does not correct under-eye bags, and it does nothing for the cheeks, jawline or neck. Many patients who think their eyelids are the problem in fact have a descended brow pushing down on them — and a few who ask for a brow lift need eyelid surgery instead. Telling those two apart on your photographs is the first thing I do.
Endoscopic and Gliding Brow Lift: How It Works
Through incisions of one to two centimetres hidden in the hair, I release the forehead and temple tissues under direct camera vision, free the deep attachments that hold the brow down, treat the frown muscles where indicated, and fix the brow in its new position while it heals. No skin is removed from the forehead, so there is no long incision across the scalp and no visible scar.
The lift comes from repositioning tissue rather than from pulling skin, and the height is decided in millimetres against your own anatomy. That is the difference between a brow that looks rested and a brow that looks operated on: the aim is to restore the position you had, not to invent a higher one.
Real Brow Lift Results
In brow lift cases the change is measured in millimetres, so look at the height and shape of the brow tail, the amount of upper eyelid that shows, and whether the expression looks rested rather than startled. Every photograph I publish is an unretouched patient of mine, shown with written consent.

Brow Lift, Temporal Lift or Endoscopic Facelift?
These three operations use the same endoscopic principle and differ only in how much of the face they release. The right one is decided by where your descent actually is.

If only the tail of your brow has dropped, the narrower temporal lift does the job with less surgery — this is also the operation behind the lifted outer-brow look that patients arrive asking for by its social-media names. If the cheeks have descended along with the brow, the endoscopic facelift treats both in one operation. And when the jawline and neck are the real complaint, none of the three is the answer — that is the territory of the extended deep plane facelift.
Brow Lift and Eyelid Surgery: Which Comes First
This is the most common mistake in upper-face surgery. When the brow has dropped, its weight rests on the upper eyelid and creates skin that looks excess but is not. Removing that skin with an eyelid operation alone pulls the brow down further, and the tired look comes back within a year or two.
So the order matters: the brow is assessed first, and the eyelid is judged only once the brow sits where it should. In many patients the two are done together in one operation — the brow lift restores the height, the blepharoplasty removes what is genuinely excess. In some, lifting the brow alone is enough and no eyelid surgery is needed at all.
Will It Make Me Look Surprised?
No — and the reason it happens to other people is worth understanding. A surprised look comes from lifting the central brow too high, over-lifting a brow that was never the problem, or lifting skin rather than releasing the deep tissue that holds the brow down. All three are decisions made in surgery, not properties of the operation.
I plan the height on your own photographs, lift the outer brow more than the centre, and treat the frown muscles conservatively rather than paralysing the forehead. A brow lift done this way is usually noticed as “you look rested” rather than as surgery.
Who Is a Good Candidate — and Who Is Not
The ideal candidate has a brow that has visibly descended, reasonable forehead skin quality, and a complaint that is genuinely about the upper third — heaviness, frown lines, a tired expression, or upper eyelids that feel crowded. Age matters less than anatomy: I operate on patients in their thirties whose brow position is congenitally low, and on patients in their sixties as part of a wider rejuvenation.
I advise against surgery when the brow sits at a normal height and the real problem is eyelid skin, when a very high hairline would be made worse by the wrong technique, or when what the patient wants is a change of eye shape rather than a return to their own brow position. Botulinum toxin can lift the brow tail a millimetre or two and is a reasonable place to start for early changes — it is not an alternative to surgery once the brow has truly descended, and I say so rather than selling a course of injections.
How the Operation Is Performed
An endoscopic brow lift is performed under general anaesthesia in a fully equipped hospital in Istanbul, with an anaesthesia team present throughout, and takes one to two hours when it is done on its own. Through small incisions hidden in the hair, I release the forehead and temple under endoscopic vision, address the frown muscles where indicated, reposition the brow and fix it securely.
You spend one night in hospital. When the brow lift is combined with eyelid surgery or a facelift — which is common — the operating time is that of the combined plan, and the recovery is a single shared recovery rather than two.
Recovery and Your Time in Istanbul
Plan roughly seven days in Istanbul. You arrive one or two days before surgery for consultation and tests, spend one night in hospital, and recover at your hotel with scheduled follow-up visits before I confirm you are fit to fly.
Swelling and bruising concentrate around the eyes in the first week and settle from the top down; most patients are socially presentable within two to three weeks. Scars, Hairline and Hair Loss
The incisions are one to two centimetres long and sit inside the hair, so they are not visible in daily life, including with the hair tied back. Some temporary thinning along an incision can occur as the hair follicles recover; permanent visible hair loss is uncommon when the incisions are planned and closed with care.
Hairline height is part of the plan, not an afterthought. An endoscopic lift raises the forehead slightly along with the brow, so in a patient who already has a high forehead I choose the technique and incision placement accordingly rather than applying one approach to everyone — the published comparisons of brow lift techniques in receding hairlines make the same point.
Risks, and How I Reduce Them
The specific risks of brow lift surgery are temporary weakness of the forehead branch of the facial nerve, numbness of the scalp, asymmetry between the two brows, hair thinning along the incisions, and — in the wrong hands — over-elevation. Large published series of endoscopic brow lifts report low complication rates, and direct camera vision is part of the reason: the nerve branches are seen and protected on the screen rather than avoided by feel.
I reduce these risks the same way as in every facial operation: staying in known anatomical planes, conservative and symmetric planning, secure fixation, and honest patient selection. If a problem occurs it is managed openly and immediately — including revision surgery in the rare cases that need it.
How Long a Brow Lift Lasts
Because the deep tissues are released and fixed, the change is structural: the brow returns to a younger position and continues ageing from that better starting point rather than from where you began.
I do not attach a number of years to that, because skin quality, genetics and expression habits differ from patient to patient. The goal I set is different — that after surgery you belong to the best ten percent of your own age group, and that you keep that advantage as the years pass.
