The nasolabial filling procedure aims to reduce the wrinkles around the corners of the mouth and the hollowness in the mouth-cheek area occurring due to genetic factors or sagging caused by aging.

How are nasolabial fillers applied? 

Nasolabial fillers can be applied with needles or the cannula method. In the cannula method, the cannula is moved towards the nose through the hole opened next to the lips with a needle. The hollowness is reduced, and a softer appearance is created by filling the area between the nose wings and the corners of the mouth. Another way to create a softer appearance in the cheek-mouth area is to apply fillers to the area below the nose wings with fine-tipped needles. On average, 2-3 ccs of filler can create a noticeable difference; however, the amount depends on the deepness of the patient’s nasolabial line.

Is nasolabial filling a painful procedure?

Before the procedure, an anesthetic cream is applied to the area. Due to this, the patient does not feel the pain caused by the needles. In 

rare cases, the patient may feel a bit of tingling near the nose during the filling phase.

What should be considered after a nasolabial filling procedure?

There might be swelling and bruising for 2-3 days. This situation typically ends on the 5th day. To reduce the swelling, the patient can apply ice from time to time. It is advised to avoid contact with water for the first 4 hours, and not to put on makeup for the first 12 hours after the procedure. The patient should not massage the area unless it is advised so. 

How long do nasolabial fillers last?

Nasolabial fillers last approximately 9-12 months. It depends on the patient's age, medical history, genetic factors, and type of filling. Repeated applications help the fillers last more.

Are nasolabial fillers harmful?

Dermal fillings are composed of hyaluronic acid, which is a substance found in the skin and the filling material of the hypodermis. Since they are naturally produced in the body and are not foreign to it, they do not lead to allergic reactions. The body digests them in 9 to 12 months. Hence, they do not lead to permanent harm or change.

In which cases can nasolabial fillers be applied? Can they be applied in the summer?

Nasolabial filler can be applied to patients over 18 to decrease the wrinkles around the corners of the mouth and reduce the hollowness in the mouth-cheek area. However, if the patient has severe illnesses, such as connective tissue diseases or immunodeficiencies, the procedure is planned according to the patient and the disease.
