Jowl Lipolysis (Enzymatic Lipolysis)

Jowl lipolysis is a type of mesotherapy in which lipolytic drugs are injected into the jowl area to break down fat tissues and tighten the subcutaneous area. In addition to the jowl area, this method is used around the belly, upper arms, and thighs as well to make them thinner or to reduce the size of the lipoma. It is advised for normal or overweight people with localized adiposity.

What is enzymatic lipolysis?

Enzymatic lipolysis is the procedure of breaking down fat tissues, during which lipolytic drugs with this effect are injected into the subcutaneous fat layers. They mainly consist of phosphatidylcholine, deoxycholic acid, carnitine, and caffeine. Phosphatidylcholine dissolves the fat accumulated in fat cells, and as a result, helps break them down. Deoxycholic acid is effective in reducing localized adiposity. L-carnitine moves the fat from where it is accumulated and triggers the metabolism to break down fat cells.

How is jowl lipolysis performed?

During the jowl lipolysis, a special mesotherapy mixture containing lipolytic drugs is injected 1 centimeter below the skin with fine-tipped needles. It is usually repeated 1-2 times with an interval of 1 month. The number of sessions increases depending on the amount of fat.

Is jowl lipolysis a painful procedure? How long does it take?

Before the procedure, the injection area is numbed with an anesthetic cream. Hence, the

patient does not feel any pain. During the injection, the patient may feel a bit of a burning sensation due to the drugs.

What should be considered after a jowl lipolysis procedure?

After the procedure, there might be a bit of a burning sensation, edema, itching, and redness in the injection area. These conditions disappear in 24-48 hours on average. After the procedure, the injection area should be massaged daily for 2 weeks. The edema in the area easily disperses with this practice. The skin tightens and attunes to its new heightened place without any problem. In case of slight pain, the patient may take simple painkillers. Possible bruises or edema usually disappear within 1 week.

In which cases can jowl lipolysis procedure not be performed?

Jowl lipolysis procedure cannot be performed if the patient has certain severe illnesses, such as rheumatic diseases causing skin stiffness, Behcet's disease, connective tissue diseases, or immunodeficiencies. If you have a disease, please make sure to inform your doctor during the planning of the treatment.

Is the effect of jowl lipolysis permanent?

Enzymatic lipolysis allows the body to remove the fat by breaking down the fat cells and lipoma found in the injection area. However, it does not break down all the fat in the area. If the patient gains a considerable amount of weight, localized adiposity might occur again. Therefore, it is advised to maintain the current weight.
