 The golden needle procedure, which combines micro-needling and radiofrequency energy, is a highly effective method used for skin resurfacing and tightening. Although it is mainly preferred for the face, jowl, and neck areas, it can also be used on areas with fissures, cellulitis, scars, and surgical scars.

 The golden needle device can go under the skin and emit radiofrequency energy due to the gold-plated needles at its tip. This energy turns to heat under the skin and increases the synthesis of collagen and elastic fibers by stimulating them. This increase allows the skin to tighten and get plump, and as a result, decreases the fine wrinkles.

Since the needles on the tip of the device create needle holes in the skin, the procedure also triggers the healing process. While the skin heals, the patient observes a better skin tone and a decrease in blemishes, acne scars, fissures, and cellulites. How is the golden needle applied? Is it a painful procedure?

Before the procedure, an anesthetic cream is applied to the area in question. The treatment starts after waiting approximately 30 minutes. Owing to the anesthetic effect of the cream, the patient does not feel any pain in most cases. However, in rare cases, the patient might feel a bit of pain in the bony areas. The 

treatment takes approximately 20 minutes. After the procedure, a cold soothing mask and sunscreen are applied to the area.

The redness caused by the procedure varies from patient to patient and disappears in 2 to 5 days. It is not advised to apply makeup within the first 3 days after the procedure. If truly needed, colored sunscreen can be used. It is advised to avoid contact with sunlight for a week.

In which cases can the golden needle procedure not be applied?

The golden needle treatment cannot be applied if the patient has rheumatic diseases causing stiffness, autoimmune connective tissue diseases, or a pacemaker, or if the patient is pregnant. In the case of keloids, it is rarely applied. In severe cases, the decision depends on the condition of the patient and the disease.
